The role

We are seeking two outstanding all-round commercial lawyers to join our Film, Television and Theatre Group.

These are highly sought-after positions, working alongside partners and senior lawyers who are ranked as experts by independent legal directories. The roles involve advising on a wide range of rights, production, finance, and other matters for leading names in these sectors.

Candidates are expected to have a passion for the film, television, theatre, and live events industries, coupled with experience in these sectors or strong credentials across commercial, contract and intellectual property law. The successful candidates will be senior (at least 4 years PQE, although we expect that the successful candidates will be between 5-9 years PQE) and will possess the ability to provide accurate legal advice, manage transactions and develop a thorough understanding of how the film, TV, and theatre businesses operate, as well as the terms of deals within these industries.

We are seeking individuals who are outgoing, confident, technically strong, and ambitious. The right candidates will provide legal advice in a pragmatic and commercial manner, have the ability to develop and mentor more junior teammates and will be able to foster and maintain strong client relationships, and actively nurture new clients.

Key responsibilities

Work across the group is varied and might include:

• Advising producers on rights-based issues, including handling rights and creator contracts, as well as negotiating deal terms and drafting and negotiating agreements.
• Advising on wide-ranging contractual matters across development, finance, production and distribution
• Providing structuring advice to producers, studios and investors.
• Assisting clients with the day-to-day legal needs of their productions, addressing a broad range of potential legal issues.
• Handling general commercial agreements.

Although it would be a significant plus to have expertise in the above areas, we are open to considering candidates who have a strong skillset in handling and negotiating commercial and intellectual property contracts, even if they are not currently focusing only on clients in the entertainment sector.
